Oh by the way I have these numbers that are generated by my recent lipid panel. Cholesterol number 201. Normal is 130-200 so I am High. wow. 1 number away from normal. My LDL is 122. High. Normal is 0-100.
HDL considered the “good cholesterol is 66. Normal range 40-115.
My cardiologist was quick to recommend a statin. Says we need to get my LDL down and we will start with minimal dosage as my LDL is a little higher than he wants to see. And so I asked, if that doesn’t cause any change in my LDL what will he recommend. Up the dosage to next level was his response. He has since written a form letter to his patients that as of in 2 months he is retiring so I need to find another cardiologist. Thanks for writing this article on this topic.
Your numbers look pretty good to me! A more important number than Total Cholesterol or LDL is Total/HDL which looks like 201/79=2.5 for you which is really good. Great that your doc is retiring - opportunity to find one who is more up to date on the science! Maybe find someone who is functional medicine trained. Check out IFM.org.
